I don’t really want to think about how long it’s been since I’ve last updated the blog and I know I’ve kept pushing back this relaunch for several months at this point, if not a year. I can excuse it by saying that life has been hectic, that I’ve been a bit of a nomad for the past 18 months and that I’ve had to uproot my life and move to a completely different country – Northern Ireland. The reality, however, is that, now that the proverbial dust has settled, I have run out of reasons to not tackle the biggest issue with why I’ve stopped blogging – I lost direction.
In a way, I think I never really had a clear view of what I wanted this little corner of the internet to be. Much like my brain, the blog became a random, hectic mishmash of topics that never really came together. I think it’s because the blog was missing something very important – me. Much cliché, I know. The blogging world has come a pretty long way since the internet diary days of Livejournal but I’m not quite sure the glossy magazine vibe is something I can pull off – or want to. I’m not trying to knock down anyone down but rather trying to find out what my writing voice is and what style of blog I want to produce.
The conclusion I’ve reached is that I like the more personal touch. God knows I have plenty of thoughts, opinions and feelings on anything and everything so I don’t want to suppress that side of myself. I want to have the room to say all the things I want to say, to explore and grow.
What I’m saying, I guess, is that I’m going old school in 2017. The focus of this blog is still lifestyle. There’s still going to be plenty of fashion, books and travel, but it’s going to be more incorporated into my life rather than just stand alone reviews or articles. I’m also going to start adding more food because cooking, baking and eating is a huge part of my life and, all 1950’s housewife jokes aside, I actually enjoy doing.
The blog is going to get flooded over the next few days with a variety of posts. I’m also going to rediscover my Twitter password and rejoin the amazing blogger community. I’m also going to keep my daily Instagram posting streak going.
It’s good to be back.
